The Food Pyramid


The U.S. government updated its Food Guide Pyramid in 2005.

The old pyramid was designed to remind people of what they should eat to stay healthy. But the government wanted to do a better job of teaching Americans that people need to both exercise and eat right to stay healthy.
So they redesigned the pyramid and included a person climbing stairs to illustrate how physical activity is important when it comes to good health. It also symbolizes the small steps you can take to improve your diet and lifestyle every day.
